Unsewn Binding with Dispersion Adhesives

The dispersion adhesives used for unsewn binding are commonly based on plasticized polyvinyl homopolymers. They are used, for example, when excellent lay-flat behavior is required, or when the risk of printing inks influencing the bond is very high. They are usually applied via rollers. Dispersion adhesives set by absorption or evaporation of water; however, as this process requires a certain time period the capacity of machines working with dispersion adhesives is limited. Drying by means of high-frequency (HF) energy can speed up the process, but this is expensive [39].
