Brushing

Brushing also acts as a special type of abrasive surface preparation. For a given size of grit, the surface roughness obtained by brushing is less than that achieved with grinding, due mainly to the fact that, compared to the grinding wheel, the brushes are relatively elastic. It is again essential that the surfaces are degreased before brushing (as with grinding), and that the working direction again be at right angles. Since with brushing, the compressive pressure applied to the adherent surface is lower than with grinding or blasting, this surface preparation method is also suitable for sensitive parts, without any risk of distortion. Residual binding agents may be transferred to the adherent surface, as with grinding.
