Chain transfer agents and other polymerisation modifiers may be added to the monomer premix. The principles and chemical types are the same as for acrylic polymerisation in general. The main object of the chain transfer agent is to control the molecular weight by reducing the growing chain length. However, unlike the solution polymerised products the viscosity of the final latex is not affected by the chain transfer agent, since the viscosity of a latex is not dependent on the molecular weight of the polymer.
