The COB system is also used for solid colour OEM finishing. The dark, or strong colours, black, reds, greens, blues are particularly effective on cars, resulting in an increase in the DOI The principle for formulating a solid colour COB system is exactly the same as for metallics. The basecoat uses a saturated polyester binder for dispersing the pigment. Pigment levels are normally higher than with standard paints in order to achieve opacity at lower film thicknesses.
