Adhesives for joining unvulcanized elastomers to metals or plastics under vulcanization conditions are called rubber-to-metal bonding agents. Mixtures of film-forming components, cross-linking agents, and stabilizers dissolved in organic solvents are used as bonding agents. The solids content varies from about 15 to 25 % according to type. The film-forming components used are chiefly halogenated polymers, whereas the cross-linking agents are, for example, nitroso compounds, isocyanates, and oximes in combination with an oxidizing agent [54]. In many cases, primers are applied additionally to the metal surface to improve resistance to corrosion.
