Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is an approach used to ensure process safety by systematically examining potential failures, assessing the likelihood of occurrence of failures, and evaluating the effect of the failures on product quality. Furthermore, the likelihood of detection and the necessary actions to be taken when a failure has occurred are identified. Process FMEA assesses every step of a manufacturing process, from materials supply to shipment, while Design FMEA assesses the design and layout of a specific article. As a result of these analyses, the Risk Priority Number (RPN) for a specific fault is then created, representing a direct criterion of priority.
