Self-adhesive products such as ‘band-aids’ are the most ancient and popular applications of adhesives in the medical sector. PSA tapes come into contact with the human body for several days, while acrylic spray-on adhesives are widely used on cleansed wounds where they replace band-aids. Newly developed transparent wound dressings made from polyurethane film and acrylic adhesive may remain on the injection site of central venous catheters for up to seven days. These allow the progress of wound healing to be observed and are permeable to water vapor and oxygen, but impermeable to microorganisms and water [70].
