It is necessary to test the internal lacquer to ensure that it will withstand the demands placed upon it. A series of standard tests are undertaken to evaluate the quality of the application, and the dry film.
A lacquer is applied to a can and cured. The coating thickness is tested using a Strand Gauge. The equipment is calibrated using panels applied with the coating at known film thicknesses. The Strand Gauge measures the insulation resistance of the coating, with reference to the calibration standards used, and gives a relative value for the coating thickness.
