The clarity and good colour of thermoplastic acrylics make them ideal binders for use in fluorescent coating formulations for both interior and exterior applications including safety warning, roads and aircrafts.

Fluorescent pigments are usually prepared by incorporating a fluorescent dye in a granular resin so do not require grinding. To improve pigment suspension, aluminium stearate is added. For exterior applications it is essential that this lacquer be protected with a clear overlacquer formulated with a UV absorber stabilising system such as Tinuvin® 900/Tinuvin® 292 (Ciba Geigy) or Cyasorb UV24 (Cyanamid).
These formulations have now been superceded by NADs because of higher pigment loadings. Rohm + Haas resin NAD-10 may be used.
