The examples discussed above may give the impression that the use ofthese natural adhesives is limited to specialized niche technologies. In the following paragraph however it will be shown, quite on the contrary, that natural adhesives are also suited to large-scale industrial applications, and that there are not always reasons to replace them with synthetic products. This applies to glutine glues that are processed hot, and
to casein and dextrin glues which are processed in the cold state. It should be noted that the term ‘glue’ is used deliberately here as, in the typical fields of application (i. e. paper and wood processing), this term is still employed to the present day (see Sections 8.4 and 8.5).
