a) Lower molecular weight polymers
Lower molecular weight acrylics, with a narrow molecular weight distribution are produced using high pressure polymerisation techniques with increased reaction temperature, careful initiator selection and optimised initiator concentration.
this period that the thixotropic acrylic component of the binder comes into play, increasing the apparent viscosity of the paint surface during the early stages of heating, thus preventing sagging. Crosslinking then takes over, resulting in a rapid and real viscosity increase and finally solidification of the paint film. Today, thixotropic resin systems are used in a number of OEM (original equipment manufacture) applications.
